Religion & Society

I’ve had the privilege of directing two grant-supported documentary projects exploring the intersection of religion and society, each centered on the evolving role of the Catholic Church in the 21st century. These films are not works of evangelization, but honest efforts to understand how faith takes root within cultures and communities over time.

Discerning the Call: Change in the American Priesthood premiered in April 2024, and Project Lesa: Catholicism in Southern Africa is set for release in December 2025. Both projects are supported by Fordham University and the Overseas Press Club Foundation.

Discerning the Call tells the story of change in the American Catholic Priesthood in the last 75 years. Featuring interviews, statistics, and historical analysis, we try to present a clear picture of the American cultural changes of the last eight decades through the lens of the priesthood.

Project Lesa examines the Catholic Church’s role in Africa, focusing on how faith is lived and expressed differently from Western communities. Through personal stories, historical context, and social impact, it highlights the unique intersection of Christianity and local culture in Southern Africa, with a special emphasis on Zambia.
