The President

The President of The United States, Donald J. Trump recently paid a visit to Los Angeles to view what he refers to as one of the toughest spots at the border. While I view this more as a pinpoint of public relations, the real story is how he dropped his original nominee to lead the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agency: Ron Vitello.

The real story…

Citing he wants to move in a “tougher direction”, Trump unexpectedly dropped Ron Vitello as his nominee out of nowhere and will soon announce another candidate who will undoubtedly have to be confirmed in the U.S. Senate. As of now, Mr. Vitello is going to remain as acting director of ICE until Trump’s next nominee is presumably confirmed.

The States Attorney

*Correction: I said States Attorney for Illinois; I meant States Attorney for Cook County… my apologies.

The States Attorney for Cook County, IL, Ms. Kimberly Foxx is under really hot fire after receiving heavy backlash for the decisions she made in the Jussie Smolett Case. As I talked about yesterday….

As I’ve covered in the past, The Jussie Smollett Case is quite interesting. Kim Foxx, the States Attorney unexpectedly dropped all 16 felony charges in relation to The Jussie Smollett case.

Now…

Jussie Smollett is forced to pay $130,000 for missing his original 7 day deadline to pay for the hate crime hoax. Even before Smolett failed to pay this money, outgoing Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called the reality his lead prosecutor created as a “whitewash of justice” alongside Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson.

Some context:

Empire Actor Jussie Smollett has recently been arrested for filing a false report about a hate crime, according to The Chicago Police Department. The CPD informed the media that he was taken into custody just after 05:00 CST.

He is charged with “disorderly conduct” for perpetuating the false hate crime. In the original report, Smollett alleged that two men, each wearing black attacked him and yelled racial and homophobic slurs while both wearing Trump Campaign Apparel.

After three weeks of conflicting and urgent reports from prosecutors and the police department, the final update has been given Thursday morning. Anthony Guglielmi, Chief Communications Officer for The Chicago Police Department, said the State’s Attorney office had approved a felony charge of disorderly conduct against Smollett.

Later, it was also made public that Smollett issued a payment to these men for $3,500.

CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson said it best:

“First, Smollett attempted to gain attention by sending a false letter that relied on racial, homophobic, and political language. When that didn’t work, Smollett paid $3,500 to stage this attack and drag Chicago’s reputation through the mud in the process… and why? This stunt was orchestrated by Smollett because he was dissatisfied with his salary. So, he concocted a story about being attacked.”

The Mayor

The Mayor-elect of Chicago has been communicating via telephone to the nations top leaders – past and present. Among many, Lori Lightfoot spoke with current U.S. President Donald Trump, 44th President Barack Obama, 42nd President Bill Clinton, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and a plethora of 2020 Democratic Presidential hopefuls…

It is said that transition of power is one of the best things about a democracy… and while that may be true, it is also pretty straining. Among many things, Mayor-elect Lightfoot is tasked with assembling a solid team to work alongside her and follow through on her “mandate for change”, a term she used extensively while on the campaign trail.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Lightfoot has already started (and maybe finished) assembling her transition team with names like Ra Joy, a vocal supporter and once Lieutenant Governor running mate to one-time Gubernatorial Candidate, Christopher Kennedy. Many former colleagues from The Chicago Police Accountability task force made the list including Lisa Schneider-Fabes and Maurice Classen. Among others, her campaign manager, Manuel Perez is currently acting as Lightfoot’s intergovernmental affairs advisor and will most likely go on to have a big role in her administration.
